Climate crisis is real and we’ve discovered that it is accelerating much faster than predicted, which is overwhelming and frightening, because it’s tied to our survival. But there is one powerful thing we can do immediately to fight climate change, improve our health and happiness, and save the planet. Everybody wins. Let’s do it!
We are already seeing destruction close to home; fires, unpredictable weather, storms, floods, etc. Many people don’t realize that climate change and global warming affects us all. It’s not just in Alaska or Iceland or in faraway places like Amazon, where we paid the horrible price with devastating results, not to mention the wild life that we will never see again, due to meat demand and human greed.
With the warming of earth’s atmosphere, and melting of glaciers, it effecting our ocean and atmosphere temperatures, which is destroying the natural course of the planet, which produces our food supply, including healthy soil without disease, fresh water, that is non-toxic and abundant, as well as beneficial insects and animals that pollinate our food, and keep the ecosystem balanced. Everything is connected.
In addition, global warming has created invasive plants, insects and animals that are destroying the beneficial animals, causing new problems, diseases, and issues we don’t know how to deal with.
Dr. Lucy Jones, the eminent semiologist said recently that climate change will also accelerate earthquakes with global warming and it is becoming harder to predict. Interestingly enough, her greatest fear has become climate change rather than earthquakes, which is minuscule compared to the global crisis that is threatening the whole planet and all of its inhabitants.
However, we hold the power to reverse climate change and this is something everybody can do immediately and save our planet, ourselves, and our future.
Reduce and/or Eliminate Eating Meat
Meat consumption contributes to more than 50% of gas emission, as it also pollutes earth’s soil, water, and air. We kill 230 million animals a day and more than 30% or earth’s land is used accommodate livestock agriculture. Meat consumption is responsible for deforestation, land degradation, greenhouse gas production, habitat destruction, air and water pollution, and it’s destroying the world’s freshwater resources, that we literally depend on for life, and so much more. Producing meat requires approximately 20 times more water per calorie than crops like cereals and starchy roots. The water footprint for meat is six times larger than that needed to produce protein-rich beans, chickpeas, lentils, and peas.
Reasons To Go Meatless
There are endless reasons to go meatless. Here’s a very short list.
Meat is high in saturated fat, contains trans fat, antibiotics, hormones, coloring, fillers, etc.
It can lead to cancer, especially colon cancer, heart disease, obesity, high cholesterol, kidney failure, E.coli, and so much more.
Eating meat has led to lethargy and depression.
It saves ton of money and time.
It increases our energy and longevity.
It stops the cruelty and suffering of farm animals living in horrific conditions.
Meat Consumption is Not a Necessity
Some people feel they cannot live without eating meat, but that has been proven false repeatedly. The belief is more cultural and habitual, rather than a necessity. We’ve been conditioned to believe that meat is the only source of protein, but that has never been true. And no one has died from not eating meat with ample evidence. In fact, people eating less meat or not at all have improved their health, lost weight, and increased their longevity. So dare to think outside the box and shed someone else’s idea of what is necessary in our food.
We don’t have a protein deficiency problem. The last case happened in 1941. In fact, we have the exact opposite problem with too much protein from processed food sources. Plus, there are plenty of healthy, delicious, and affordable meat free protein sources that is not only healthier, cheaper, and tastier, but it will make us thinner, while improving our environment , saving wildlife, and future generations.
What is a Complete Protein
Protein is crucial to our survival, but it’s important to get the right kind from natural sources that our body was meant to process so it can properly function and help us survive.
Protein is comprised of 20 amino acids; 11 of these amino acids are produced by the human body. For good health, we must get the other nine amino acids (called “essential amino acids”) from the foods we eat. When a food contains all nine of these amino acids, it is called a “complete protein.”
Try these alternatives to start. The possibilities are ends unlike meat and you’ll taste food you’ve never imagined. Although most plant based food has protein, here are the ones that really pack in the protein without the fat, cholesterol, and calories, among others.
Quinoa (complete protein)
Buckwheat (complete protein)
Hempseed (complete protein)
Soybeans (complete protein)
Peas (complete protein)
Beans: So much protein with hardly any calories.
Vegetables: They have protein without the saturated & trans fat and all the dangers from meat. Try eating kale, spinach, leafy greens, cruciferous veggies, such as cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower to start.
Root veggies, especially beets
Start by incorporating these foods in your daily diet. You can get great recipes right here to get you started. And remember to eat your vegetables first, which will fill you up and prevent you from eating too much of anything, including meat.
Make Meat Eating Exception Than the Norm
Longest living people on our planet don’t eat meat or eat them sparingly such as on special events or on holidays. It’s the exception rather than the norm.
While you are on your way to becoming meatless, make sure you opt for organic, grass fed meat that comes from trusted farms with humanly raised labels, where the animals are free to roam, and eating their natural food in a natural environment.
